Privacy Policy
This policy explains what happens to personal data when you visit omiknowsbest.com. It is written to describe what this site actually does, which is very little. Last updated: 6 October 2026.
Who is responsible
The controller for personal data processed through this site is Chris van Look, operating omiknowsbest.com from Belgium. You can reach me about anything in this policy at info@omiknowsbest.com, and I will answer.
Visiting the site: server logs
The hosting provider records standard technical information when a page is requested: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring page, and the date and time of the request. This is ordinary web server operation and is used to keep the site running and secure. The basis is legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. These logs are kept by the hosting provider only as long as it needs them and are not combined with anything else.
Visiting the site: analytics
This site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It was chosen because it is cookieless: it sets no cookies, does not fingerprint your device, does not follow you across other websites, and does not build a profile of you. It reports totals, not people. The basis is legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Cookies
This site sets no advertising cookies and no tracking cookies. Because the analytics are cookieless, there is no cookie banner. If a cookie is ever needed to make something work, this policy will be updated to say so before it appears.
Omi's letters (the newsletter)
If you sign up for Omi's letters, I collect your email address. I also keep a record of your consent: the date and time you signed up and confirmed, the form you used, and the IP address at sign-up and at confirmation. That record is there so I can show you agreed, if I am ever asked.
Why, and on what basis: to send you the letters you asked for. The basis is your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can withdraw it at any time, and withdrawing does not affect letters already sent.
Double opt-in: after you sign up, you get one email asking you to confirm. Nothing else is sent until you click that link. If you do not confirm, your address is deleted after 30 days.
Who sends the letters: the letters are sent for me by MailerLite Limited, Ground Floor, 71 Lower Baggot Street, Dublin 2, Ireland. MailerLite is a processor working on my instructions under a data processing agreement, and stores the data on servers in the European Union. Its own privacy policy is at mailerlite.com/legal/privacy-policy.
Opens and clicks: MailerLite records whether a letter is opened and which links are clicked, so I can see which letters are useful.
The free printable: signing up is how the printable is sent to you. If you would like the printable without the letters, write to info@omiknowsbest.com and I will send it.
How long it is kept: while you are subscribed, your address stays on the list. If you unsubscribe, it comes off the list at once. MailerLite then keeps it only on a "do not send" list, so that you are never written to again by mistake. The consent record is kept for three years after you unsubscribe, in case I must show that consent was given, and is then deleted. If you have not opened a letter in twelve months, I will ask once whether you want to stay, and remove you if you do not answer.
Leaving: every letter has an unsubscribe link. You can also reply and ask to be removed, and I will do it.
What I will not do: your address is not sold, rented, swapped or shared with anyone, and it is not used for anything except Omi's letters.
Writing to me
If you send an email, that message and your address are kept so the exchange can be answered and followed up. The basis is legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Messages are deleted once they are no longer needed.
Embedded video
Where a page embeds a video hosted on YouTube, the privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com domain is used, so YouTube sets no cookies until you press play. Once you play a video, YouTube receives data as described in Google's own privacy policy, over which this site has no control.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to ask what personal data is held about you and to receive a copy; to have it corrected; to have it erased; to restrict or object to its processing; to receive it in a portable format; and to withdraw consent at any time, which does not affect anything done before you withdrew it. Email info@omiknowsbest.com and you will get an answer within one month.
Complaints
If you believe your data has been handled improperly, you can complain to the Belgian Data Protection Authority (Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit / Autorité de protection des données), Drukpersstraat 35, 1000 Brussels. Telephone +32 2 274 48 00. Email contact@apd-gba.be. Website www.dataprotectionauthority.be.
Changes
If what this site does with data changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top changed with it.
